![]() To these have been added transcripts of previously unpublished recorded interviews conducted in Paris by Ms Norman, and a forward by Arthur Houghton. Finally released to the family, these autobiographical notes have been painstakingly edited by Geraldine Norman, formerly art market correspondent of the London Times and Independent, and a long-time friend of Bob's. These notes were first seized by Italian authorities from his home in Paris and used in a trial brought against him when he was already in his eighties, in a campaign that saw the Euphronios krater sent to Italy and an overwhelming change in the way in which museums, private collectors and dealers in ancient art conduct business. The Euphronios Krater stands 45.7 cm (18 inches) in height and has a diameter of 55.1 cm (21.7 inches). The Euphronios Krater depicts scenes from the Trojan War. He was known for depicting both mythological as well we everyday life scenes in his pottery. He was an innovative artist who was active in the Red-Figure style of Greek Pottery. ![]() In later years, Bob started recording his amazing career on paper. Euphronios is a celebrated Greek potter and artist who flourished circa 520 470 BCE. ![]() The Republic of Italy immediately claimed that it had been illegally excavated, but for thirty years was unsuccessful. Legendary scholar and foremost dealer in ancient art in the second half of the twentieth century, Bob Hecht was catapulted to international fame in 1972 when he sold one of the very greatest of all Greek vases, a large vessel for mixing wine and water at the symposium, signed by the painter Euphronios and the potter Euxitheos to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. ![]()
